AKARANA CLUB'S EVENTS Members of the Akarana Rifle Club shot over ranges of 800 yds and 900 yds under tricky wind conditions on Saturday. The six members of the club—with the exception of S. A. G. Elliott —who are representing the Akarana Club at the New Zealand championship meeting in Trentham next week, were on the range testing their rifles. The team is the strongest that has gone forward from the club for many years and comprises the present Auckland champion. E. ,T. C. Reston. and the South Auckland champion. W. Colquhonn. CLUB AT 'BIRKENHEAD OPENING CEREMONY HELD The miniature rifle range of the Birkenhead and Xorthcote Club in Greenfield Road, Birkenhead, was opened on Saturday afternoon. The first shot at 100 yds, made by the Mayor of Birkenhead, Mr. E. J. Osborne, scored a bull's-eye. Mr. Osborne congratulated the club on its formation, and welcomed the new sport in the district. He said it was a pleasure to see so many young men so keenly interested in this pastime. The Mayoress handed to the secretary of the club a silver cup donated by the Mayor for annual competition. PAPAKURA DEFENCE CLUB Members of the Papakura Defence Rifle Club held a shoot over 100 yards and 600 yards at the Opnhcke range on Saturday, silver spoons being won by Riflemen A. M.
