HOISTING THE COLOURS
ROYAL AKARANA CLUB TJic fpfinal ccrojiony of hoisting the Blue Jinsjign at the premises of the Boyal 4kar«)pa Yacht Club took place 011 Saturday morning iu the presence of the patron, Captain H. H. Sergeant, and about 20 members. '\Vfien"the "cliib"was 'granted the prefix " Hoval " it was also permitted to jiy the Blue Ensign, defaced by the club badge. The warrant of authority to use the title " Boval " arrived from London some months ago, but the waxrant to wear the Blue Ensign was received bv the club on Saturday. The conditions under which owners of club yachts may use the ensign were road by thp racing secretary, Mr. E. S. Brookes. After the receipt of the letter from Mr. J). E. Fouhy, official Government secretary, dealing with the warrant, had been confirmed, the club oliapiain,' the Rov. Jasper Calder, in a short ceremony, blessed the colours. 'l'jicse were presented by Captain Sergeant and received by the commodore, •Sir. T. McKnight. At S a.m., w}?eri colours are always hoisted for the day, Mr. H. Hill fired the club starting cannon and lan McKnight, son of the ,commodore, hoisted the ensign to tho flagstaff on the clubhouse.' Oojigratulations'wore offered by Captain Sergeant, the Bev. Jasper Calder Mr. W. A. \yilkinson. who, the commodore said, was the oldest mem)>pr of tho club, having formed it in Npveipber, ]8i)l, under the name of the S]iqrp Sailing Club.
