IPSWICH BY-ELECTION CONSERVATIVE DEFEATED (Received February 17, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 17 A by-election for the Ipswich seat in the House of Commons, rendered necessary by the raising of the former member, Sir John Ganzoni, to the peerage, resulted as follows: — R. Stokes (Labour) 27,604 H. Willink (National Conservative) 24,443 The result is a gain for Labour.

At the general election in November. 1935, Sir John Ganzoni (Conservative) gained 28,528 votes, defeating R. F. Jackson (Labour), who polled 21,278 votes.
