Oourtcraft's Programme Golden Ridge (McGovern) always had the measure of Joe Louis (Oranee) over five furlongs in 1.6 1-5, running the first two in 26 3-ss. He has improved out of all knowledge since tho Pallia tua meeting, and evidently relished the easier going.

Stroll In, a big four-year-old gelding is the latest addition to C. McGovern's team, and ho worked freely on tho inside grass. Francis Drake (Cavane.y). after running tho first two furlongs in 30s, completed a mile in 1.50 1-5. Aiwai assisted him over the last five furlongs in 1.6 2.5, and they finished together. Courtcraft (Cavaney) strode over a round and brushed home tho last three furlongs under iestraint in 40 l-ss. it is probable Courtcraft will contest the Waihou Handicap at Te Aroha and his departure for Australia has been postponed for a short while to enable him to race at Trentham, where he may compete in the New Zealand St. Leger as well as the Challenge Stakes. SANTA ANITA HANDICAP TO BE RUN ON MARCH 5 J' A record entry was received for the Santa Anita Handicap, the world's richest race, to be run on March 5. This race is the main event of the 56-day meeting of the Los Angeles Turf Club, and among the 93 entries are the best of the American gallopers, while 18 of the entrants come from England, Chile, France, the Argentine nnd Uruguay. Among the noted entries are War Admiral, the undisputed champion of the three-year-olds; Seabiscuit, the leading three-year-old handicapper of 1937, and who finished second, half a head away, in the Santa Anita last year to liosemont, who is engaged again this year; the 1936 winner, Top Row; Time Supply, Pompoori, Indian Broom and Heelfly. The French-bred colt Le Bambino, who is trained by Fred Darling at Beckhampton, England, for Mr. Balph B. Strassburger, has been nominated. Lo Bambino won the Kempton Park Coventry Stakes and the'"Wood Ditton .Stakes at Newmarket. Scabbard, who dead-heated with settling Day in the Knowslcy Dinner Stakes at Liverpool, his last raco in England, has been entered by his American owner, Mr. J. E. Widener, while other interesting entries are Ligaroti, Olimpo and Sabuoso, who are owned by Bing Crosby; while other horses to be entered by film stars are Cascabelito, owned by Joe E. Brown, and Best Beau, owned by Paulino Frederick. The race this year has attracted five more entries than last year's event.

ACCIDENT FUND BENEFITS The stewards of the National Hunt Committee gave notice that on and from January 1, 1938, to the end of the current steeplcchaso season, the maximum benefit payable will bo at the rate of £lO 10s a week for the first three weeks, and for the remainder o! the period of disablement the amount of benefit shall bo at the discretion of the stewards, the maximum period of benefit for temporary disablement to be 30 weeks.
