HEAVY TRACK

SPEINT BY OHJIAHA MERIAL RECORDS GOOD FIVE TRILLIARCH BEATS MANGUKAHA PRINCE ACRE MOVES FREELY [BY TELEGBArH —OWN COBRESPONDENtJ HAMILTON, Thursday Following the rain of yesterday, which continued practically unabated throughout the night, the course at To Rapa was sodden and under water in sections this morning. Consequently there was a dislocation of what promised tn.be a series of interesting final gallops for the Waikato Racing Club's Summer Meeting on Saturday and Monday Steady rain was falling prior to the breakfast interval and, although it eased later in the morning, conditions were most unpleasant. The majority of the galloping took place in the rain. The course proper was closed and all fast work was executed on the No. 1 grass, which, considering the amount of rain that had fallen, was in comparatively good order. At presont it is difficult to estimate what the condition of the going will be on Saturday. There is still a chance that the going will be reasonably good, as the track dries quickly. With a letup in the weather this may be achieved However, in the event of a further soaking to-morrow, the ground will be heavy. Tho best efforts of the morning were a half-mile by Ohmaha, five furlongs by Merial and a round bv Lagoon. Wotan "and Philemup arrived from New Plymouth this morning. Oentaurus and Susan

Trilliarch (N. R. McKenzio) was a head in front of Mangukaha (S. J. Tremain) at the completion of five furlongs in 1.7, the last half-mile being run in 53*. Tt was a useful effort on the part of both horses, who handled the conditions well.

A useful five furlongs was credited to Centaiirus (J, Winder) and Susan (F. Hain), who ran home in 1.7 J. Price Acre (J. Winder) finished clear of the maiden Nichavo (F. ilain) at the end of three furlongs in 39 l-ss. Respectful (J. McLaughlin) was not bustled to run six furlongs in 1.27. He looks well but was not at home in the conditions.

May Song (J. Winder), after travelling last over the first couple of furlongs, was easing up to complete six in 1.22. She appears to be all the better, for her racing at Rotorua. The best half-mile of the morning was that of Ohmaha (A. G. Murray), who accounted for Miss Clipper (J. McLaughlin) and Valmint. (J. F. Fergus) in 51 l-ss. Ohmaha revelled in the ground. Oometarium Goes Solidly L'Allegro (A. Gilmer) was worked over a round, being timed to run the last five furlongs m 1.12 1-5. Merial (J. Winder) ana Te Poura (F. Hain), assisted over the first two furlongs by the two-year-old Vitement, got to the end of five furlongs in 1.5 1-5. Merial. who was suited by the going, executed her work in good style. Te Poura's effort was promising. Bryce Street (J. F. Fergus) and Lucidus (N. C. Trillo) negotiated a round in 2.5J, the final six furlongs in 1.26 l-o. A smart five furlong 3 was credited to the promising maiden Cometarium (N. R. McKenzie) and Ladv Montana (Midwood), who recorded 1.55. Cometarium has been shaping consistently Well on the tracks and interest will attach to his form at the meeting. Lagoon (W. Thomson) ran once Touna in 2.2 4-5, the first six furlongs in 1.20. Dark Shadow (W. Thomson and Malagigi ,(J. McLaughlin) ran six furlongs in 1.21 1-5, the last halfmile occupying 565. Dark Shadow's prospects will not be enhanced in the event of heavy going ruling on Saturday.

Master Brierly and Prince Rangi worked separately down the straight.
