FRUIT CONTROL

INTERNAL MARKETING REGULATIONS PENDING CHARGES FOR CASES , It is reported in the retail fruit trade that regulations to be issued under the Primary Products Marketing Amendment . Act for the control of the internal marketing of fruit provide that retailers shall pay 6c! for bushel fruit cases, 4d for half-bushel cases aud 2d for tomato cases. It is further stated that these proposed charges, together with other questioni involved in the control scheme, are to be the subject of representations to the Government.

Retailers seen on the subject objected to the charges, which, however, are likely to be favoured by growers. The delay in the issue of the regulations has aroused considerable expectation, because it was anticipated by many in the fruit industry that some form of control scheme would have been brought into operation from the New Year. It is now felt that there may be a delay until the Government has completed its plans for the control of importations of oranges and bananas. ; -
