THE DAVIS CUP
DOMINION, .WITHDRAWS
DECISION OF ASSOCIATION BEST TEAM NOT AVAILABLE [by teleghaph—•press association] WELLINGTON, Monday In view of the fact that A. C. Stedman is not available for the New..Zealand Davis Cup team, the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association's management committee decided to-day to withdraw this year's entry. It will not send two players as previously contemplated. The decision of the New Zealand Association will no doubt be generally upheld as it is considered that, without Stedman, the Dominion's representatives would not pet very , far against the.overseas opposition they would be called upon to meet. C. E. Malfroy, who is at present in England, would Ibe a worthy representative, but D. C Coombe, of Wellington, one of last year's team, played very inconsistency at the recent New Zealand championship meeting in Auckland. On this showing he could scarcely have been sent abroad again. There will be a certain amount of regret in Auckland that the New Zealand champion, A. D. Brown, is not to have an opportunity of playing in more select company. He has thoroughly earned such a right and it is untortunate for him that there is no other player quite fitted to accompany him. J. T. Mayson's latest performances were better than those of C. Angas. of Canterbury, Coombe and N. G. Sturt, of Auckland, but unfortunately Mayson was not nominated for a position im the Davis Cup team.
