Association that the Auckland Electric-Power Board should purchase and subsequently trade in all stocks of direct-current electric motors was received by the. board at its; meetins: yesterday. Bartley, reported thai the' association vva& now asking the board *to take over the stocks of motors held by Auckland electrical traders, in addition to handling all futuro business of this nature, with the exception of fractional horse-power motors. Ther proposal included both, new . and second-hand motors. . i.V" ' "The estimated value of: motors over one horse-power held in stock hy the traders is about."£2soo",'" and smaller motors about £500'.," said Sir. Bartley. "We also estimate that-. stocks held by traders at the time the board fixed its policy concerning 'the hiring of direct-current motors have since been reduced by 30 per cent. ' "It is noted from the: association's letter that traders claim that secondhand motors are being brought ••• into Auckland from outside sources,'' Mr. Bartley added. "We have done everything possible to . prevent this, occurrence. It is a difficult'matter to controlf and I think that it is done only to a very limited extent." The chairman. Mr. &. J. Harbutt, said the position had not changed since the matter last came before the hoard, wlien it wiib decided to take no action. It was unfortunate that second-hand motors were being imported, but he maintained that as far as the board was concerned it should enter into no agreement to trade in motors. ■ The matter was referred to the board m committee, and it was decided to invite representatives of the. association to submit their case."
