QUESTION OF LAW
USE OF PHOTOGRAPHS IDENTIFICATION PURPOSES The question of the police use of photographs for identification purposes was again raised Mr. Sullivan, when James Davidson Ireland, a labourer, aged 22, appeared before Mr. Justice Fair for sentence in the Supreme Court yesterday. Ireland had been found guilty of receiving suits stolen from houses. Mr. Sullivan said an application had just been lodged asking His„Honor to reserve a question for the Court of Appeal in this matter. The question arose out of the photographs being shown by the detectives, to witnesses, who were afterwards asked to identify accused at an identification parade. His Honor said ho would give Mr Sullivan an appointment as early as he could to argue the matter. In the meantime the prisoner would be remanded in custody.
