RETROSPECTIVE AWARD TIME ALMOST EXPIRED The northern industrial district concrete, workers' award, announced by the Arbitration Court yesterday, will be retrospective for nearly a year, insofar as wages are conceruecj. Tho only matter referred to the Court was the date of the coming into force of the award, which shall be deemed to have come into force on January 1, 1937, as far as wages are concerned, and in other conditions from February 10. 1938, and shall continue in force until February 28, 1938. In. other respects the award embodied the recommendations arrived at in Conciliation Council. Moulders of all descriptions, whether by hand or machitfe, including lining of metal pipes, and makers of fabricated and welded reinforcements are to be paid 2s 4Jd an hour, and other concrete workers 2s 3|d. Subject to the provisions of the Factories Act the following will be the minimum rates of Tor youths:— TJnder 16, £1 ss; 16, £1 lis; 16J, £1 15s; 17, £1 19s; 17-J, £2 3s; 18, £2 7s; 18}, £2 lis; 19. £2 15s; 19J. £2 19s; 20, £3 3s; 20*, £3 7s; and thereafter adult rates. ;/ A week's „work shall not exceed 40 hours, to be worked between 7.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays Overtime shall be paid for at the rate of time and a hair for the first threo hours and then double time. Workers when engaged in wet-places will be supplied with gum boots, and gloves if necessary.
