REMUERA ELECTORATE

DR. GUNSON TO STAND INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE PLATFORM NOT YET STATED I It was announced yesterday by Dr. E. B. Gunson, president of the Crusado for Social Justice, that he intended to stand as an independent candidate for the Kemuera seat, formerly Parnell, at the next general election. Concerning his political campaign, Dr. Gunson did not wish to make any statement at present. . •

For nine years Dr. Gunson lias been a member of the Auckland HospitaK Board. In 1926 he was elected president of the Nexv Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, and in 1930 he was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians His interest in art led to his election as the first president of the New Zealand Association of Arts Services. He was also president of the Auckland Society of Arts for five years, and is at present a member of the Mackelvio Trust Board which administers the funds for the purchase of pictures for the Mackelvie collection in the Auckland Art Gallery. Dr. Gunson was for four years on active service with the Royal Army Medical Corps is France, Egypt and Salonika, and, at the end of the war, retired with the rank of honorary major. As a result of the census, the Parnoli electorate was changed by the Boundary Commission last year, and the namo altered to Remuera, since this is the chief district in the constituency. The sitting member is Mr. W. P. Endean (National), who was first elected in May. 19.'J0, when, in contesting the scat resigned by Mr. H. R. Jenkins (United), he defeated Mr. A. W. Donald (United) and Mr. T. Bloodworth (Labour). Mr. Endean (Coalition Reform) retained his seat in the general election of 1931, polling 6963 votes against Mr. J. W. Yarnall (Labour), 2401, and Mr. W. C. Hewitt (Independent), 1350. In the last general election the voting was: —Mr. Endean (National), Mr. A. G. Osborne (Labour), 4803; Sir Alexander Herdman (Independent), | 3113; Mr. F. 0. Jordan .(Liberal), 459'.
