The appointment of heads pi the divisions of surgery and medicine ;tt the Auckland Hospital, two newlycreated positions,not be made far . several weeks, 'according to a statement yesterday bv the chairman of the board, the "Rev. W. C. Wood. Seven application* have been received for the surgical position and sis" for the medical post.
The board was not yet in-a position to disclose the names of the applicants,.' ; Mr. Wood said. The names had first to ,be submitted to the Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Fraser. and later had to come beforp a select committee consisting of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine -at Otago University. Pro- , fessor C. E. Hercufc. the presidents of the Australasian College of. Surgeons and the Australasian College of Physicians. or their representatives, the Director-General of Health. Dr.'' 31- H. Watt, and himself. •Mr. Wood added that he n?«s endeavouring to arrange for the select committee to sit in Wellington within the next' three weeks,. As soon as the Minister and the committee had considered the applications, he would- be in a position to advise the board concerning the appointments. - Each of the positions which the board intends to fill carries a salary of £ISOO. rising to £2OOO. Those appointed are = to be responsible for the direction and co-ordination of medical and surgical treatment given in the hospital and to have direct supervision of the resident medical officers.
