TARANAKI CUP WINNER BREEDING OF SERGIA [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday Sorgia, winner of tho Taranaki Cup. was bred in Hawke's Bay by Mr. Frank Onnond and was trained early in her career for her breeder by F. Davis at Woodville. She is now raced 011 lease by Mr. H. E. Glading, who trains her at To Rapa. Sorgia is a five-year-old mare by Lord Qucx from Sunny Hours, by Leighton—Los Vegas, by Boniform— La Valiero. It is a good family, which has produced some fine horses in the past. The lease of Serbia expires at tho end of the present season. Desert Gold's family by name alone is sufficient to quicken the interest of racegoers and Sudan, winner of the Ngamotu Juvenile Handicap, claims attention from the fact that she is not only a Beau Pore, but is also out. of a, daughter of Desert Gold. Sudan resembles Desert Gold probably more than any of'her descendants to date. Shc is. ii well-grown filly who looks like reaching good class.

THE KING'S CUP CONTEST ON < TUESDAY Fashioned of 18ct. gold, tho King's Cup, to he run for on Tuesday at Mowbray, l Lau noes toil, Tasmania, is of neat size. It has an acorn' on tho top and a design of oak leaves is worked into the body of the cup. It is not anticipated that there will be many horses from outside Tasmania l'emaining in' tho acceptance, so that Tasmanian stables are oxpectant of their first. success in tho race. Reports to hand suggest that Doncaster, Balkan Prince, Egmont and Yaringa are all unlikely runners, but that Princess* Pain, Prince Sion, Tuokerbox and Keeping Watch may make the trip. The Tasmanian favourite is 111awarra, with Princess Pam most preferred of the possible visitors. New Zealand interest will centre in Senegal, sold to go to Tasmania a couple or more years ago. Following are the weights:—
