LABOURER CHARGED
VERDICT OF NOT GUILTY A Charge of indecently assaulting a girl 10 years of ago on October 8 was brought against Bertie Cooper, a labourer, aged 61, before Mr. Justice Fair in the Supreme Court yesterday. There was an alternative charge of common assault. The Crown Prosecutor, Mr. Meredith, conducted the prosecution and Mr. Aekins appeared for the defence. In a statement read by Mr. Meredith accused said he was drunk that evening and had no recollection of what happened. No ovidence was . called by Mr. Aekins, but accused made a statement from the dock denying the charges. His Honor directed the jury to deal with the matter on the first count. After a very short retirement the jury brought in a verdict of not guilty and accused was discharged.
