£238 DAMAGES AWARD
MOTOR FATALITY SEQUEL VERDICT ON £7500 CLAIM [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday Loss of expectation of life was the basis of a claim for £7500 which was heard in the Supreme Court before the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, and a jury. The plaintiff was Alfred McLeavey, of Te Horo, farmer, as administrator of the estate of the late James Keith McLeavey, Wellington, motor driver, and the defendants were Harris and Campbell, Limited, "Wellington, cartage contractors. The case arose as a result of an accident in Wellington in June last year, McLeavey being knocked down by a motor-lorry and dying in hospital from internal injuries. The jury returned a. verdict for the plaintiff for £2OO general damages, and funeral and hospital expenses totalling £3B 17s 4d, and the costs of the action.
