OPEN BOAT CLASSES CHAMPION FLAG TO MANU MAHANA DEFEATS SONOMA CLASS M (Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, 18ft restricted class). —First prize, £5, and championship flag presented by Mr. G. M. Dennes; second, £2 10s; third, trophy. A record entry of 11 boats for the M class event attracted unusual interest to the race. 'Mawhiti was first away from Manaia and Manu. The lastnamed took the lead early and, nftor remaining in front throughout the rest of the course, finished well ahead of tho fleet. The race started at 12.10 p.m. and the finishing times were:—Manu (scr), 2h 01 in 535; Mercedes (3m 30s), 2h 59m 52sj Mawhiti (3m 30s), 3k lm 16s; Manoa (lm 30s), 3h 4m 275; Manaia (lm 30s), 3h 5m 335; Maroro (7m), 3h 8m 28s; Maratea (9%m), 3h 10m 525; Mararoa (3m 30s), 3h 15m 50s; Mere (lm 30s), 3h 19m 9s; Mnranita (7%m), 3h 24m 335; Malolo (17%m)r 3h 26in 375; Motero (17% m), 3h 43m 20s. The result on corrected times was:—Manu, 1; Mercedes, 2; Mawhiti, 3; Maratea, 4. The champion flag was also won by Manu. EVENT FOR V CLASS LIMERICK NOT CHALLENGED CLASS V (open or half-decked boats, 18ft overall). —First prize, £10; second, £5; third, £2; fourth, trophy presented by A. Foster and Company, Limited. There were 22 starters in tho race for class V, and, with such a large number of entries, considerable congestion occurred us they crossed the line. Once clear of the fleet Limerick took a comfortable lead, which was never seriously challenged throughout the course. TUSSLE BETWEEN SCRATCH BOATS CLASS S (open and half-decked boats, 10ft and under). —First prize, £0; second, £2 10s; third, £1; fourth, trophy presented by Morris, Black and Matheson, Limited. Again a large fleet hampered a free start in the race for S class boats. Several of the craft fouled other competitors in the congestion, while two touched the mark-boat. The two scratch boats, Mahana and Sonoma, provided a strenuous tussle around the course, the former crossing the line first.
