SIX KILLED
NOBEL WORKS TWO EXPLOSIONS AYKSHIRE DISASTER PANIC IN DISTRICT MUCH DAMAGE DONE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received January 28, 7.45 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 27 Two explosions in the gelatine mixing shed of the Nobel works at Ardeer, Ayrshire, killed six people, including a woman. The explosions were 10 minutes apart. They not only wrecked the mixing shed in the blasting department, but demolished a magazine, blew out windows three miles away and shook houses 15 miles distant, causing a panic in the district. Twelve people were slightly injured. The second explosion, in which a woman who had escaped after the ficst one was killed, flung a huge sheet of flame above the skyline, followed by dense clouds of smoke. None of the buildings subsequently caught fire, however.
Their families anxiously greeted crowds of girls streaming from the gates after the disaster.
