MOULDING YOUTH
INTERESTING EXPERIMENT Miss Katherine Hoywood has written a very instructive manual entitled "The Child: Learning and Living." The hook is an account of an experiment in primary education conducted under the name of the Sinionsberg Garden School, a small private institution founded bv Miss Hey wood in South Africa. The writer approaches' her subject with a practical sympathy and understanding o| children, based on adequate qualified training. She worked under ideal conditions and her methods show originality blended with unobtrusive thoroughness. Perhaps "unobtrusive" shows her system in its best light, as all her results were achieved without forcing the pupil. This is true not so much in the way of discipline as in the presentation of the lesson. Tho comprehensive nature of the experiment and the practical treatment Miss Hey wood gives it as she* writes, makes the book of unusual interest to teachers. It will appeal to thoughtful parents as well.
