AN OUTLAY OF £15,000 FEW OFFICIAL FUNCTIONS "An outlay of at least £15,000, it is estimated, will be necessary for the Empire Games at Sydney, and officials arc hoping for fine weather and big gate receipts to recoup the organisation. There will be a minimum of official entertainment, nt the request of the managers of the various teams. Only three official functions have been arranged. Unofficial functions, however, are expected to take place, but it is) understood that the athlotes do not desire to attend anany of these, because they are eager to accomplish their objective as athletes, - and not become social ambassadors. It has been suggested that success with the Empire Games might lead to Australia being awarded the Olympic Games. That would never be possible, it is stated, for the nations of the Northern Hemisphere would never givo way in the matter Geographically, Australia is out of bounds as far as the attitude of other nations on the Olympic Games question is concerned. It is all a subject of opposites—a reverse in climate and diet for the majority of nations in tho Northern Hemisphere.
