DOUBLES ON RACES
MAN EXHIBITS CHART t' ' ' COURT IMPOSES FINE OF £5 "Making a double chart is an offence that is very close to bookmaking," said Mr. C. It. Orr Walker, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, when Frank McPherson (Mr. Norris) admitted a summons charge of exhibiting a double chart.
Senior-Sergeant Calwell said defendant was found by the police in the bar of a city hotel, soliciting bets on a home-made double chart for races held on November 19 last. Counsel said defendant was on sustenance, and used this means of supplementing his income. He recently came to Auckland from Wellington, and nothing was known against him. Defendant was fined £5 and costs, 10s.
