STOCKS AND SHARES
JHE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE i TRADING ONLY MODERATE Business' was only moderate in the investment market on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. The weakness which was noticeable on the previous day was not so marked, and levels were, if anything, a shade firmer. Th© strength of Government loans w as illustrated by a transfer of the 1952-55, 4 per cent stock at an advance of 7s 6d. There was a full inquiry for other issues. ]Banks again were dull. Commercials of Australia maintained late rates, but New Zealands were weak, offers being withdrawn at the close. Among insurances, New Zealands sold freely on a weaker market, three parcels changing hands, at a drop of Is. The coal section was inoro active, and Renowns suffered a slight setback. Auckland Gas continued strong, although the contributing issuo eased a shade. .Australian industrials remained inactive. JMetals showed signs of improvement, the market closing firmer. Henry Jones imicle a sharp forward movement tnd gained a full. 3s 7d on sale. The recovery in Wilsons Cements was car•ried a further stage. Dunlop-Perdriaus also gained some ground. The Exchange will bo closed to-day, on the occasion of Anniversary Day. Business will resume as usual on Monday.
