GENERALLY FAIR WARM TEMPERATURES The weather report and forecast for ' f New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows : —An anti-cyclone is moving slowly eastward off the Dominion and a rather intense westerly depression is approaching across the south Tasmania. The forecast is for'north-easterly to northerly winds prevailing, light to moderate generally, but gradually freshening and later reaching gale force at places about and south of Cook Strait, ,and backing to westerly and in places southwesterly within- the next 24 hours in the southern portion of the South Island. Seas slight to moderate, hut ' rising in Foveaux Strait and latef also in the Cook Strait area. Eastern Tasinan Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds rising to gale force at times in the southern portion, backing later to west or south-westerly in the latter areaj seas moderate in the northern portion and rather rough to rough in the southern section. The weather is likely to be still fair to fine generally at first, but becoming cloudy to overcast shortly in the western districts and with scattered rain developing in Westland and the far south. Temperatures warm. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FAIR TO FINE AND WARM The Government meteorologist issued to the Herat,d last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province:—Light to moderate northeast to northerly winds gradually freshening. The weather is likely to be fair to fine and warm, but cloud increasing to-morrow. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland.—The morning was cloudy but in the afternoon the sky cleared and gloriously fine conditions were experienced. There was a light to moderate north-north-east wind. The maximum temperature was 78 degrees and the minimum 68 degrees. The barometer rose in the morning, dropiied slowly in the afternoon and commenced to rise again last night. Barometer, midnight, , rising ~ 30.20!n, Midnight, Thursday .. 30.15!n, Wellington.—The weather was brilliantly fine and warm with a light north-westerly wind. The minimum temperature on Thursday night was 49.9 degrees and the maximum yesterday 74.5 degrees. The temperature at 3.30 p.m. was 71.1 degrees. The barometer stood at 30.10 in. Christchurch. —An overcast sky in the morning cleared later and the afternoon was sunny and bright with . a maximum temperature of 65.4 degrees. A strong north-easterly breeze blew throughout the day. The barometer at 5 p.m. registered 30.029 in. and was falling. Dunadin.—The fresh to strong northeast wind of the past few days prevailed again and temperatures were mild to warm' The sun shone brightly until the latter part of the afternoon' when there were passing clouds.
