WEDDINGS

RHIND—CRUICKSHANK The wedding was celebrated at St. Michael's Church, Remuera, yesterday afternoon, of Mary, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Cruiokshank, of Victoria Avenue, Reinueri, to John Alexander, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. I!hind, of Lyttelton. The Rev. Father J. Bradley officiated. Rich autumn colouring in shades of warm brown, green and gold was a distinguishing feature of the decorative scheme, zinnias and foliage in these shades being used to decorate the church and the home of the bride's parents, where the wedding reception was held.

A gown of ivory Chantillv lace was worn by the bride, who entered the church with hor father. Mounted on ivory crepe de chine, the gown was fashioned as a redingote with long tight-fitting sleeves slightly gathered at the shoulders. From a small collar, a row of tiny crepe de chine buttons fastened the gown to the knees, from where it opened over a soft godet of sun-ray pleated georgette. A graduated train was formed by the lace appliqued on to the crepe de chine. The short triangular veil was worn with a coronet and necklet of orange blossom buds, and a trailing bouquet of cream cactus dahlias was carried. The two bridesmaids, Miss Peggi Cruickshank and Miss Peggy Rhind, were dressed alike in picture frocks of eau-de-nil taffetas. The bodices were fashioned with elbow-length sleeves and high necklines which fell in two points over a cluster of matching green flowers. The skirts were gored to the knees and then flared into soft folds finished with a wide hem of light quilting. The waistlines were defined with self-coloured belts and clusters of green flowers. Their picture hats of stitched taffetas were banded with gold and green velvet ribbons which cascaded to the waist at the back of the frocks. They carried bouquets of dahlias in gold and brown tonihgs. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. P. Rhind as best man, and by Mr. B. Crawford (Lyttelton) as groomsman. Acting as ushers at the church were Messrs. B. Cruickshank and A. Macfarlane.

To receive her guests Mrs. Cruicksliank wore a gracefully-trained gown of bottle green Cluny lace and a widebrimmed green straw hat trimmed with ospreys. She carried a bouquet of golden toned zinnias. Mrs. Rhind, the mother of the bridegroom, wore a smart black chiffon velvet frock fashioned with a black net tunic appliqued with velvet, and a black picture hat. She carried a bouquet of soft pink and blue flowers. Mrs. M. Ltfndon, grandmother of the bride, was in a navy blue flat crepe frock threaded with gold, and a small navy blue hat. Her bouquet was of cerise carnations. BROADLEY—SUTHERLAND A very pretty wedding was celebrated in St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral last evening, when Phyllis Jean, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Sutherland, of Clevedon, was married to Wynn, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Broadley, of Oriental Bay, Wellington. The Rev. K. F. Button performed the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr. G. Stephens, wore a graceful frock of silver lame made in mediaeval fashion with a pointed waistline, slightly full corsage, and heartshaped neckline. The slim-fitting skirt ended in a long train. On her head she wore a high Russian headdress from which fell a long veil of white tulle. A sheaf of Christmas lilies was carried. In attendance as bridesmaids were the bride's two sisters, Miss Anita and Miss Rosalie Sutherland. They were dressed alike in frocks of silver lame, slim-fitting and graceful, and slightly rnched into a diamond-shaped panel ending with deep folds in front from the knees down. On their heads they wore high Russian headdresses. Their bouquets were of purple and mauve shaded asters. The best man was Mr. Robert Sutherland and the groomsman Mr. Claude Bourdot. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Station Hotel, where Mrs. Sutherland received her guests wearing a frock of black georgette relieved with a corsage spray of yellow water-lilies and a black hat.
