BUSY PORT

VARIED CARGOES DUE ACTIVITY NEXT WEEK TASMAN MAIL SERVICE % After a slack period for more than a week shipping trade on the Auckland waterfront will begin to revive to-day and a rush will continue until the end of next week, by which time 16 large vessels should have entered port. Three ships, the Orangemoor, discharging basic slag from Antwerp, and the Remuera and Imperial Star, from London, were in port yesterday, the only other overseas vessel being the Finnish barque Pamir. Incoming cargoes will be from many parts of the world and outward trade will be for parts as varied. A feature of the coining week's activity will be the number of loading berths. The Kent, for London and West Coast ports of Britain, will arrive this morning, and three more ships to load are expected on Sunday. They are the Surrey, for Halifax (Nova Scotia) and London, the Brisbane Maru, for Noumea and Japan, and the Port Darwin, for London, Newcastle-on-Tvne and Hull. The Kaimata is at present due on Monday to complete loading for New \ork, Boston, St. John and Halifax, and the Matua will arrive that day to take cargo for Island ports. Inward Consignments

Other loading ships during the week will be the Port Jackson and Trojan Star, for London, and the Gera, for New York and the Continent. Inward cargoes will range from sugar and wheat to basic slag and general cargo. The Northumberland frill be the fourth overseas arrival on Sunday. She will complete discharge of cargo from London. Other cargoes are motor-spirit by the New Zealand, from San Francisco, slag by the Fernmoor, from Antwerp, wheat by the Waiotapu, from Geelong, and sugar by the Fiona, from Suva.

Two cruise liners will arrive over the period. The P. and O. liner Strathnaver will arrive this morning from Brisbane and she will be followed next Friday by the Oronsay, also from Brisbane. The motor-liner Wanganella, from Melbourne and Sydney, will arrive on Tuesday. Coastal trade will be particularly brisk and two intercolonial steamers, the Waitaki and Kairanga, will arrive from Sydney. Several Nationalities

The ships and the crews who man them will be as varied as the cargoes. In addition to British ships, vessels in port will be under Japanese, German, Norwegian and Finnish registry. One aspect of the influx of shipping will be the remarkable service of incoming Australian mails. Three shipments have already arrived this week and they will be followed by a fourth, from the Strathnaver, to-day. Two will nrrive from Sydney 011 Monday by the Kairanga and Waitaki, one is expected by the Wanganella on Tuesday and another will arrive, via Wellington, by the Awatea on Wednesday. Mails already scheduled, therefore, provide for eight shipments in 10 days.
