FARM WORKERS' ACT
TWO BREACHES COMMITTED FEILDING EMPLOYER FINED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH. Tuesday The first prosecution in Feilding for breaches of the Agricultural Workers' Act was heard at the Magistrate's Court before Mr. R. M. Watson, S.M., defendant being Gordon Jeffries, of Taonui, for whom Mr. Seddon appeared. Defendant was charged with failing to pay the wages prescribed by the Act and failing to keep a wages and holiday book as provided by the Act. Both offences were admitted. In fining defendant £2 and costs on each charge the magistrate said that he took into consideration the fact that it was the first caso of its kind in Feilding and also the fact that the Labour Department would press for the recovery of the arrears owing. Defendant was a small farmer but he should know his obligations . under the Agricultural Workers' Act.
