AUSTRALIAN EMPLOYMENT (Eeceived January 21, 5.5 p.m.) CANBERRA, Jan. 21 Figures issued by the Commonwealth Statistician show that employment in Australia is back to the pre-depression levels. At the end of last year only 8.2 per cent of trades union members were out of employment. This is the lowest figure since August, 1927, when 6.7 per cent were out of work. BRITISH FIGURES FOR 1937 (Received January 21. 6.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, Jan. 20 The Gazette of the Ministry of Labour shows that the average number of insured persons in employment in Britain in 1937, exclusive of those in the agricultural scheme, was 11,496,000 compared with 10,912,000 in 1936.
