AUCKLANDER'S RETURN HOLIDAY IN DOMINION After about 15 years residence in Pasadena, California, Captain Aubrey Bullock-Webster, a retired cavalry officer, formerly of Auckland, arrived by the Monterey yesterday on a six weeks' holiday visit to Auckland, He is visiting his father, Mr. H. BullockWebster, and while in Auckland hopes to see former members of the 3rd Auckland Rifles, with whom he served at Gallipoli during the Great War. Captain Bui lock-Webster, who was born in Auckland, left for Gallipoli during the war and after the campaign there joined the 2nd Bengal Lancers as a regular cavalry officer. He remained with the Indian cavalry until 1923, when he retired and went to live in California. He has lived there ever since, although he has twice previously visited Auckland, the last occasion being in 1931. He is an expert golfer and has won numerous golf competitions and matches. In 1924 ho won the State championship and was. runner-up in .the Northern championship, which ho won in 1926. He remains keenly interested in the game and plays four or five days a week. "The Californian climate is ideal for those who like an even climate and it is a healthy one," said Captain Bul-lock-Webster. "California is renowned for its fruit and its climate; the two go together. It is rather warmer in Auckland to-day than in California, but the heat here is probably more humid. Pasadena is a large town with a population of about 70,000 or 80,000 and is situated about eight miles from Los Angeles." While in the Dominion Captain Bul-lock-Webster hopes to enjoy some golf, while he also hopes to do some deepsea fishing off Whangaroa. He fished there with success on his previous visit to the Dominion, and in California he usually fishes off Catalina Island.
