Cooke, to meet the Hon. R. Semple - and advocate the speedy construction i of the Kauaeranga-Tairua Road. Advice was received by the chamber of the official opening of the Chief Post Office, and it was decided to ask* the Borough Council to decorate Pollen Street and to arrange a func- ( tion in the evening, if the Postmaster* General, the Hon. F. Jones, could stay over-night. . The Chief Postmaster, stated that immediately the new building was declared open, business would commence as all was in the change-over from the old building having been effected.. However, the telephone exchange would still operate' in the old building as the new equipment/ was not to nand. All telegrams would be handled by teleprinter equipment.' The matter of better facilities on the Thames coast was debated, and ai committee, comprising Messrs. C. R. Cooke,. J. H. Ensor, J. H. Battison, A., Brokenshire and C. Coakley, was appointed to formulate proposals for tne annual meeting in March. The dust nuisance was to be one matter that "required attention, as well as t extra bathing sheds and a water supply.
