EMPIRE GAMES
Sir, —It would appear that in one instance the selectors have, perhaps inadvertently, not given one of our athletes a fair run. I refer to the case of H. D. Ball and the 440 hurdles for which event Anderson of Canterbury has been selected. Ball beat Anderson when he raced against him at Wellington, and later on he beat Finlayson at Auckland —this in 55 1-5 seconds. Anderson was then asked to run to see what time he could put up, and the result was 1-5 of a second better than Ball's Auckland time. There is no proof that Ball would not have again beaten Anderson under the same track conditions, and yet he is passed over. Fair Pla.y.
