Her Majesty was hurriedly admitted to hospital yesterday, the operation being performed subsequently. ■

Queen Alexandrine of Denmark is the daughter of the Grand Duke Friedrich Franz lIL of MecklenburgSchwerin and hiscwife, the Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia. In April, 1898, a year before her father's death, she. married the Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark, who came to the throne in May, 1912. They have two sons, the Crown Prince Frederick, who married Princess Ingrid of Sweden,' and Prince Knud. Queen Alexandrine, thanks to her kindly disposition and her devotion to welfare work, is very popular. In her later years the Queen has. been subject to internal trouble. While at Skagen in. September, 1937, _ with the King and the ex-Crown Princess Cecilie she was taken ill and an operation had to be performed.
