ITALY'S NAVAL BASE
MEDITERRANEAN ISLAND IMPOSING EQUIPMENT SUBMARINES IN HARBOUR (Received January 10, 6.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 10 The Daily Telegraph says Italy is making Leros, in the Dodecanese Islands, her main naval and air base in the Mediterranean. She has installed secret heavy artillery and underground oil and petrol tanks. Usually there is a large flotilla of submarines in the harbour. Leros commands Cyprus and is within easy reach of the Suea Canal and Palestine.
