CHARGES OF ASSAULT f;'/ fs; : TWO ACCUSED REMANDED Two charges of assault were preferred against John Murphy, farmer, aged 36 [(Mr. Singer), when he appeared before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. Applying for a remand until Thursday, Sub-Inspector Fox said the complainants were a youth, who was fairly Ibadly injured, and his mother, Lawrence Henry McEntee and Christina McEntee. Mr. Fox added that a further charge had to be investigated. Accused was remanded on bail of £lO. A seaman, Charles Sharp, aged 46, was charged with assaulting Grace >Mary 'Sharp, committing mischief by breaking two windows valued at £1 10s. the property of the City Council, and committing a breach of his prohibition order. Mr. Fox said that accused allegedly gashed complainant's head, with an axe. Accused was remanded in custody for a week. A charge of obtaining £lO from. David Corontliic Walker by means of a 'falsei cheque on December 24 was preferred against Charles Mervvn Higgins, share salesman, aged.: 27. He was remanded until next Monday. A middle-aged Maori, Wharematangi Hiki, charged with stealing a horse valued at £4O from Te Hau Te Teua at Putaruru on New Year's Day, was remanded to appear at Putaruru next Tuesday.
