EXCHANGE VACATION ENDED BUSINESS RESUMES TO-DAY Business on the New Zealand Stock Exchanges, which have been closed since December 23, will be resumed this morning. -More settled conditions in London and_Xew ork in the closing weeks of 1937 resulted in the market ending the year under brighter conditions than those which had ruled for some time. During the vacation further encouraging signs have appeared and although uncertainty still exists there are hopes tor a. steady improvement in markets. Some evidence of this is contained in messages from London published this morning. With the exception of wool, commodities are generally stronger and the New York and London markets are much steadier. Business in Australia was resumed last Wednesday. Markets there have been firm, particularly for industrials, but investors, with an eye on overseas conditions, havo been inclined to greuter caution. Closing quotations on the Auckland Stock Exchange at tho end of the year were:—
