TO FLY HOME

AUSTRALIAN MINISTER PASSENGER ON CENTAURUS HON. T. W. WHITE'S INTENTION i* \ ' [by tei.kgrAph—OWN correspondent] * WELLINGTON, Tuesday When the transtasman liner Awatea left Wellington this evening for Sydney her passengers included the party which accompanied the Australian Minister of Trade and Customs, the Hon. T. W. White, to the Dominion for the trade negotiations with the New* Zealand Government, but not the Minister himself. It is reliably reported that Mr. White, who had been booked to sail by the Awatea, will be a passenger by the Imperial Airways flyingboat Centaurus when it leaves Auckland for Sydney on January 10. The party which sailed to-night included Mrs. White and Miss Lilian White, the Minister's private secretary, Mrs. F. M. Grant, Mr. E. McCarthy, of the Commonwealth Department of Commerce, and Mr, J. S. Fletcher, of the Commonwealth Customs Department.

Interviewed on the Awatea when he was seeing his wife and party off, Mr. White did not discuss his plans beyond saying that "he was leaving Wellington to-morrow for Auckland and would leave Auckland on January 10 for Sydney. That is the day the Centaurus is expected to make her return flight to Australia.

Mr. White declared that his visit to New Zealand had been well worth while, for such negotiations as he had undertaken were the best ways of smoothing out misunderstandings and difficulties. "You have definite problems in New Zealand, and so have we in Australia," he said. The information he had gathered in the Dominion would be discussed by the Federal Cabinet at the end of. January.
