REVOLVER AT TENNIS
PURELY AN ACCIDENT RECENT SYDNEY INCIDENT [from our own correspondent] SYDNEY, Dec. 31 The police state that the appearance of a revolver at the White City tennis courts on the occasion of the second exhibition by Budge was purely accidental. Allegations that an official had brandished a revolver to quieten a crowd which had been refused admission were characterised as " exaggerated." " The police report." said Inspector Tindale last night, "is that a large crowd pressed around the ticket stall near the main entrance and in the rush a table was tilted up. A drawer containing a revolver issued to officials for protection slid open, and the revolver and a quantity of silver fell out. • i M r " Wedgwood, one of the officials, picked up the revolver and put it in his pocket, calling out to his assistants to 'watch for the cash.' Mr. Wedgwood ridiculed the suggestion that he had pointed the weapon at the crowd." i Officials of the New South Wales Lawn Tennis Association disclaim any knowledge of the affair.
