HAMILTON LAKE

IMPROVEMENTS EFFECTED WORK OF DOMAIN BOARD [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Thursday In spite of increased financial commitments, resulting from higher wages and costs generally, the Hamilton Domain Board during the past year has been successful in maintaining, and in many respects improving, the extensive lands in and around the borough which come under its jurisdiction.

Particular attention has been directed to improvements at the lake domain and during the year the entire eastern frontage of the lake has been carefully prepared for the laying down of lawns next season. Improvements have also been made to the golf links at the lake and to the kiosk, while a large number of native trees of various species have been added to the native plantation. Additional seats and benches have been set up, the bathing area has been improved and about 500 trees and shrubs were planted in the lake domain. The lake itself is now freer of weeds than it has been for the past 15 years. In addition to the work at the lake, the maintenance and improvement of the other domain lands has been carried out without interruption. Considerable work has been done at Hinemoa Park to make this fine ground suitable for the weekly meetings of the Hamilton Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, while a large programme of work has also been successfully carried out at Galloway Park. There about 16 acres of land have been taken in and prepared and next year this area will be laid down in grass. Tho surroundings of the tennis courts in Rostrevor Street have also been improved during the past year.'
