Dec. 9 Two women and seven children were burned to death in a-fire in a three-storey apartment house at Knoxville, Tennessee. Nineteen people escaped, many of them in spectacular fashion. One man leaped from a secondfloor window clutching his five-months-old son in his arms. They were not injured, but the man's wife and .three other children were incinerated. Another man holding two children jumped from a third floor window, alighted on a porch on the second floor and tossed his children to a spectator, who caught them*safely. Then the man and his wife jumped. They escaped with minor burns and shock.
