BUILDING IN HAMILTON

PROGRESS MAINTAINED FIGURES FOR NOVEMBER [from ouk own corukspondknt] HAMILTON, Wednesday The activity in. the building trade that has been experienced in Hamilton during the past few years has been well maintained, and again last month the total value of permits issued by the Hamilton Borough Council exceeded £14,000. Adequate pi-oof of the continued growth of the town is supplied by the figures for the new houses over the past years. Already this year 109 permits for new houses have been granted and, with the 101 built in 193(3, 92 in 1935 and 66 in 1931, the town has grown rapidly, the total number of dwellings built in four years being ,368. In spite of this, however, the house shortage in Hamilton is still very acute, but when the 210 State houses that have been promised have been completed the position should be eased. The business area of the town is being gradually extended, and in last month's figures is a permit for tlio erection of a concreto warehouse on the corner of Rostrevor and Victoria Streets. The total number of permits issued last month was 26, against 25 for the same period Inst year, while the total value of the buildings was £14.572, compared with £16,294 last year. Nine new houses were included in the permits last month, and ten for tho corresponding month last year.
