CITY MOTOR CAMP
WESTERN SPRINGS AREA further improvements INCREASING POPULARITY Visitors to the municipal motor camp at Western Springs have described it as one of the best iii the Dominion and the improvements which are being carried out will make it even more attractive to the many hundreds of motorists who will stay there this summer. While the greatest number of camping parties will seek acconunodution during the school holidays, the camp has attracted a steady stream of visitors almost since the beginning of spring. It has been no uncommon occurrence in the past few weeks for as many, as 12 cars to be parked at Western Springs, and already the patronage has been double that of any previous year at this P Anticipating a record number of visitors this summer tho City Council has been having improvements made. Extensions and additions have been made to the stone buildings which house tho ■ bathing and toilet equipment, and in.the bathrooms penny-in-the-slot meters have been fitted to the gas heaters so that users may have as much hot water as they desire. Further levelling to make more ground available as camp sites was started this week by subsidised;labour. The plantation on the side of the camping area toward the Zoological Gardens is making splendid growth and the trees' are tall enough to provide shaded sites for camps. Future development is likely to include the planting of clumps of trees about tho grounds, and these should add to the beauty of an already picturesque spot. There is a swimming pool 80 feet long by 40 feet wide, with a depth ranging from 3 feet to 6 feet and a large children's paddling pool. These are supplied with running water from the Western Springs, chlorinated to the purity of city drinking water. There is a sand bin and also swings for children, two hard tennis courts and a lal-ge playing field.
