COMPROMISE REACHED

WHANGAREI AIRPORT BILL HOUSE AND COUNCIL AGREE [BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] ■WELLINGTON, Tuesday The disagreement between. the two Houses of Parliament which followed an amendment by the Legislative Council to the Whangarei Airport Bill was settled to-night. The' bill provides for the establishment of .an-aerodrome for Whangarei and for the eonstitu-» tion of an airport board. The Council struck out a sub-clause providing that it should not be necessary that any person appointed to. 3 committee should be a member of the board, and inserted a sub-clause to the effect that on committees appointed by the board there shoukl be at least one member of the board. On the disagreement arising managers were appointed by both Houses to negotiate. The 'Hon. W. Perry (Wellington), the Hon. T. Bloodworth (Auckland) and the Hon. B. Martin (Auckland) represented the Legislative Council, and Messrs. J. G. Barclay (Government —Marsden), J). W. Coleman (Government —Gisborne) and D. Barnes (Government —Waitaki) the House of Representatives. Mr. Barclay reported to the House to-night that the managers had met and agreed to reinstate the original sub-clause and add the words: "But no power to expend money shall be delegated to any committee unless at least one of the members of the committee is a member of the board." Mr. Barclay said he thought this compromise was unnecessary.. At the same time, to avoid holding up the bill, is would move that the addition be agreed to. The House agreed.
