INSTITUTE AFFAIRS
Kangiriri. —The institute birthday was celebrated recently, Mrs. Symes presiding at the meeting. Visitors were present from Ohinewai and Te Kauwliata. An enjoyable programme of entertainment had been arranged, songsi being given by Mrs. Close, recitations by Mrs. Bennet, and a sketch by members of the Drury institute. Competitions were won by Mrs. McGoferon and Miss Gunn. Afternoon tea was served by the committee. Kohokohe-Te Toro. —Mrs. Harcombe presided at a recent meeting of the institute, which took the form of a Christmas afternoon party. A tree laden with balloons and presents added brightness to the hall, and everyone wore a paper hat. Prizes for the best and brightest of these was won by Miss Harcombe. Songs wero contributed by junior members and Christmas carols I sung by all present. Competitions were won by Mrs. Twidle, Mrs. Sheffield and Miss Harcombe. The points prizes for the past six months were awarded to Mrs. Harcombe, Mrs. Sheffield, and Miss L. Hamilton, the two latter tying for second place. An address on Christmas legends was given by Mrs. Goodrich. Hostesses were Mesdames Renuell, E. "West-head and Miss J. West head. Arapuni. —Mrs. Aikman presided at a meeting of the institute. Visitors included the president of the Putaruru institute. Mrs. Anderson. A demonstration of icing a cake was given by Mrs. Addenbrooke, o3? Putaruru. The roll call was "hints on health," and the "golden thread" topic an address on health by Mrs. Aikman. The competition for a lampshade was won by Mrs. Soagar and for a date loaf by Mrs. Campbell. The sales table was in aid of the Dominion Federation funds. Motu ma o ho. --The fifth birthday im'ty of the institute was celebrated recently, Mrs. Lcnnau presiding. An entertainment programme comprised items by Beverley Batty. Miss A. Ferguson, Miss L. Mazengarb, and six members of tho institute, who presented a mime. A treasure hunt and an egp; race also added to the general enjoyment. The toys received in the soft toy competition were sold to raise funds for crippled children. A dance in the evening concluded the birthday celebrations. To Kauwhata.—The sales table at the November meeting of the institute did excellent business, and institute funds will benefit accordingly. The roll call was a humorous quotation or story, and tho competition a week's menus. Tho competition for the most useful article made from a flour bag was won by Mrs. Thomas. The points prize for tlit* past 12 mouths was won by Miss Stewart. It was decided that a picnic should be held in December instead of the usual monthly meeting. Hostesses ■were Mesdames Masson and Moßaa.
