CHURCH FUNDS AIDED
A THANKSGIVING SOCIAL ST. JOHN'S WOMEN'S GUILD To mark the closing of the activities for the year, of St. John's Methodist Women's Guild and to augment church funds, a successful thanksgiving social was held in the school hall yesterday afternoon. Masses of foliage, intermingled with crimson rambler roses, Christmas lilies, arums, cinerarias and Iceland poppies made attractive decorations in the hail, Mrs. R. Wade being responsible for the decorative scheme. The guild president, Mrs. F. J. Handy, presided and welcomed the largo attendance of members and friends. Visitors included representatives from sister guilds and friend* from adjacent churches. The meeting was divided into eight different groups. Presiding over each one were: —Mrs. P. J. Handy ana JVirs. R. Wade, Mrs. S. L. Hirst, Miss Ruby Hirst and Miss Eveline Beaumont, Mrs. C. Green and Miss King, Mrs. Braithwaito and Miss ]i«thel Bouskill, Mrs. W. P. Hardlcy and Mrs. G. Willoughby, Mrs. Mathews and Mrs. Grainger, Mrs. L. W. Hutchins and Mrs. McKcnzie, Mrs. Wells and Mrs. E. Jackson. The guild's afternoon tea committee comprising Mrs. Harrowell, Mrs. Boag, Mrs. McLanachan, Mrs. Stoodley and Mrs. Murray Jones, was assisted by Mrs. Wonsnop, Mrs. Eric Jackson, Mrs. Roger Errington, Miss Vera Arneil, Miss Marjory Green and Miss P. CrclAn entertaining programme included a three-act play, ''Yesterday's Juliet" played by Miss Mavis McCulloch, Miss Margaret Parkinson and Miss Grace McFlynn; instrumental music bv Miss Daphne Higham, Miss Betty Fenton and Mrs. R~ Reed; contralto solos with violin obligato, by Mrs. Gwen de Berg; soprano solos by Miss Betty Brown; baritone solos by the Rev. Arthur Mitchell: a duet bv Mrs. Gwen de Berg and Miss Betty Brown. The accompanist was Mrs. R. Reed. Before afternoon tea was served, the assisting artists wore thanked for their performances.
