HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE
LIMITATION OF WIDTH attitude of the board I • An effort to clarify the question of responsibility for the maintenance of the main highway from kerb to kerb through the township was decided upon by the Manurewa Town Board. The consulting engineer, Mr. R. P. Worley, said he was advised that the Main Highways Board took up the attitude that it was responsible only for 24ft., which comprised 18ft. of concrete and 3ft. shoulders on either side. .This was a peculiar attitude, as when *the Town Board laid a Water pipe-line 1 at Takanini the Highways Board intervened and stated that it controlled the whole p6ft. width of the road. Members said that the side 3 or the road were in urgent need of repair from Corin Avenue to Alfriston Road. Mr. J. H. Edwards urged the board to clear up the position. . It was decided to recommend the incoming Borough Council to make strong representations to the Minister, pressing for the department to. assume responsibility for the full traffic way.
