LOCAL INDUSTRIES

Sir,—l regret that "Apricity" in his letter of November 29 should have missed the point, otherwise I have no doubt we would both be in accord on the matter of protecting one phase of local industry. My letter was written primarily to stress the grave danger that confronts the New Zealand manufacturer of Australian goods swamping the home market. ] have no desire that any departure should bo made from the Ottawa agreement, , and I .believe in buying from the people who buy from us. This is not so in .the case of Australia, with whom our trade balance is seriously unfavourable. It is to combat this evil that home manufacturers should combine and never cease in their efforts until they aro fully protected. S.M.F.
