OPOTIKI DISTRICT RAIN TROUBLES OF MOTORISTS CARS STRANDED IN WATER [bt telkgraph—own correspondent] OPOTIKI, Thursday Very heavy rain fell in the Opotiki district throughout yesterday and last night, and rircrs were in flood this morning. The fall in the borough in the 24 hours was 1.8 in., and the countryside received a thorough soaking. The fall will do an immense amount of good. Trouble was experienced bv motorists yesterday in crossing the Raukokore River, on the new coastal road, and a number of cars were stranded in the river and had to be pulled out. The Motu River was at a very high level this morning.

GOOD FALL IN WAIKATO BENEFIT TO DAIRY FARMERS [FROM OUR OWN" CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Thursday The rainfall for Hamilton for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. to-day totalled 1.99 in., the heaviest fall recorded for one day for many months. For the month to date 4.60 in. has fallen, compared with 4.09 in., the average rainfall for November. Rain fell throughout yesterday, and there were further showers late at night. This morning broke fine, but there was a sharp shower at 12.30 p.m. The weather was clear this afternoon. High westerly winds made conditions somewhat unpleasant throughout the day. With the bountiful rain that has fallen during the last fortnight, the prospects for :i favourable dairying season are now pretty well assured. The pastures have been rejuvenated and a dry spell is now required to enable farmers to complete the harvest, ing of ensilage and hay.
