NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP

The brood mare The Begum, dam of Stretto, Mazir and Arvakur, has produced a colt foal to Beau Pere. The new arrival is a full-sister to Arvakur.

Although lie missed a place in the Waimai Hurdles at lo Rapa on Saturday, English Night went well enough to indicate that he is recovering form and he may be worth watching in his next few starts. English Night was prominent throughout and faded only in the run from the last fence.

\s a result of his victory in the Trial Stakes at Te Rapa on Saturday, Barrister is now ineligible for the Melrose Maiden Handicap at the Takapuna Jockev Club's meeting at Filerslie. The event is for three-year-olds and upward that have not won an advertised flat race at time of starting.

It is evident from her forward running in the Trial Stakes at Te Rapa on Saturday that tho imported mare Lady Meatli has made a good recovery from the injuries she sustained early iu the year and she may open her winning account shortly. Lady Meath looks susceptible to improvement and a little racing might do a good deal for her.

Owing to the fact that ho is growing rapidly, the two-vear-old Defaulter has been placed on the easy list and probably will not race again until the autumn. Defaulter shaped well in engagements at the Now Zealand Cup meeting at Riccarton and ho is a big eolt who should be all the better for not being overtaxed at this stage.

Rehandicaps are provided, for in the programme for the Takapuna Jockey Club's Spring Meeting and as a result of their winning efforts at Te Rapa Jonathan, Master Brierly and Bachelor King arc now liable to be rehandicappcd. If the handicapper, Mr. A. Tronson, intends to mako any rehandicaps he will probably await today's racing at To Rapa before declaring them.
