NEW SECRETARY WELCOMED

FUNCTION AT Y.W.C.A. HALL

Ihe week ol prayer which is being held at present by 'everv Young Cornell s Christian Association throughout the world was begun yesterday attei noon by the Auckland association with a reception to .Miss Kthel Law, who arrived recently Iron, Canada to take (lie position ol' national general secretary of the New Zealand Y.W.C.A.

Jhe hall was attractively decorated itb flowers, bowls of roses and arum lilies being placed in each corner, Leeland poppies, roses and stocks on the stage, and irises and flowering shrubs along the front. A briet address on the various nationalities connected with tlio Y.W.C.A. movement in Canada was given by Miss Law, who was introduced by the president, Mrs. L. Rudd. 1 hanks to Miss Law were later exPiessed by Mrs. T. Derrick, senior vieepresident ol the association.

I he audience, which completely filled the hall, comprised members of the association and representatives from practically all other women's organisations in Auckland. Afternoon tea was sen ed by the international member - ship committee and enjoyable musical numbers were rendered by the Mount Lueii League oi Mothers cjuintetto
