TECHNICAL TOURNEY FURTHER BOUTS DECIDED HIGH STANDARD REVEALED Preliminary contests in the .annual boxing championships of the Seddon Memorial Technical College were continued yesterday in the college hall. The high standard revealed in previous bouts -was maintained and some splendid contests are anticipated when the linals are decided next Thursday, commencing at 8 p.m. Tim Australian heavy-weight champion Claude Nichol was present yesterday and gave the competitors some useful advice. He said that ho was greatly impressed by the goneral standard. Members of the Auckland Boxinn Association also attended, Messrs. \V. Brien and G. Bush acting as referees. Mr. Brien intimated his intention of presenting to Howe, who went through to the finals in both tho light and welter-weight divisions, a special trophy in recognition of his fine performances. The organiser of the tournament, Mr. H. P. Lceves, who is the college's instructor, thanked the officials of the Auckland Boxing Association for their assistance and the loan of ttie ring. The results were as follows: — Middle-weight, lost and under. —First round: Sproul beat Morrow. Semi-finals: Holland beat (ioiiig, Sproul beat Buckly. CHALLENGER OF FARR ELIMINATING CONTEST LONDON, Nov. 3 H is understood that an eliminating contest "has been planned to decide tlje challenger of Tommy Farr for the British and Empire championships. The season was officially closed last evening when a social function was conducted in the Municipal Hall for the purpose of presenting various trophies which bad been competed for throughout the district. A feature ! of the proceedings was the presentation of ; a set of caps to members of the Northern | Wairoa representative team, which during the i season maintained an unbeaten record.
