THE HARBOUR BRIDGE

Sir, —Anent the letter in your issue of November 1, pointing out the necessity for the immediate construction of a bridge across the AVaitemata Harbour may I allude to the fact that in August, 1028, 30,000 Auckland citizens signed a petition praying for the erection of the bridge, and that the petition was presented to Parliament by Air. A. Harris, M.P.? Surely the number of signatories woidd be trebled today. In May, 1929, specially-selected delegates, urging the erection of the bridge, waited upon the Minister of Internal Affairs at Wellington, representing the Auckland City Council, tho Borough Councils of Devonport, Birkenhead, Northcote, Takapuna and Waitomata, the Auckland Hospital Board and tho Harbour Bridge Association. How much longer will the citizens of Auckland permit themselves to be subjugated to a policy of apathetic procrastination in a matter of such outstanding importance to the whole of tho province? Petrol.
