OBITUARY
MR. JOSEPH FRASER DIRECTOR OF CITY FIRM For many years closely connected with the engineering firm of George Eraser and Sons, Limited, as a director and also as secretary of the company, Mr. Joseph Fraser died at his home in Cowio Road, Parnell, on Wednesday, after a short illness. Born in Auckland 75 years ago, the late Mr. Fraser was educated at the Old Grammar School in Symonds Street and he entered the business established by his father in 1862. In his early years with the firm, Mr. Fraser was associated with the steamboat service between Auckland and Thames, eventually taking charge at Thames at tho height of the boom period.
Air. Fraser studied metallurgy at the Thames School of Minos and in the early 'nineties he was engaged on the Australian mining fields as a metallurgist. He was at one time purser of the steamship Triumph, which after being wrecked on Tiritiri Island in 188.'! was successfully refloated and repaired in the Auckland graving dock and recommissioned under the Phoenix Hag by his father's firm. Following the retirement of his father, the late Mr. George Fraser, in 1897, 'jlr. Fraser with his other brothers took over the business and established the present company. He had acted as secretary from that tiino and had served with the firm for about 58 years. .Mr. Fraser is survived by his wife, one daughter and three sons. MR. ALEXANDER LANG [ lIV TKI. KG It A I'll —O W N COB It KS rON IJKN T ] TAURANG A. Thursday The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Alexander Tilson Lang, aged 38 years. He was a resident of the To Puke and Paeugaroa districts for 13 years. Born at Aratapu, Northern Wairoa, Mr. Lang served in France during the Great War. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
